Stewart Technology Associates (STA) is an engineering
consultancy specializing in marine and offshore structures, fluid
dynamics and many other diverse services and systems. STA offers
a wide range of engineering software and oil/gas process and high
efficiency separator technology.
|
Stewart Technology Associates (STA) founded in 1986,
provides a wide variety of services in the offshore and
marine industries.
STA undertakes structural dynamic and
hydrodynamic analysis
of many structures and systems using a variety of
engineering software tools.
Orcaflex is generally the
software of choice for riser design and
riser analysis, mooring
design and mooring analysis,
single point moorings,
top tensioned risers, flexible
risers, drilling and production risers,
steel catenary risers
and cable dynamics problems
in general.
STA
is a US Agent for Orcina Software, including OrcaLay for
pipe lay analysis and
OrcaBend, for bend stiffener design and analysis. STA has
worked with Orcaflex and Orcina since 1986.

STA provides jack-up analysis
and jack-up design and review services.
The Irish Sea Pioneer, a 4-legged jack-up was designed
by STA in 1996 and built at Bollinger Shipyard, Louisiana,
for Halliburton. This vessel now works the Liverpool Bay
Project, UK. STA developed a jack-up analysis program, STA
JACKWAVE, beginning in 1987.
STA LIFTBOAT is a
similar program used by liftboat designers for preliminary
design of liftboats. The US Coast Guard also use it for
liftboat design reviews.
STA has proprietary software and designs for
marine training simulators used
for improving emergency preparedness of crews on jack-ups,
semi-submersibles, and liftboats. STA now helps US clients
with CE marking in conformance
with the 98/37/EC Machinery Directive.

Mr. Stewart has acted as an expert witness on many occasions,
providing expert testimony associated with
marine accident
investigation, mooring
failures, riser failure,
single point moorings,
liftboat design,
anchor analysis,
pile anchors, anchor failures,
suction pile failures, cable
dynamics, seakeeping
analysis, and marine collisions and capsize.
An interesting expert
witness marine litigation case involved a bottom-founded
barge that capsized while resting on-bottom of a lake in
relatively benign environmental conditions. This case involved
an understanding of naval architecture, mechanical engineering
and geotechnical engineering, all contributing to an unusual
stability failure.

STA clients have been increasingly interested in renewable
energy, particularly from wind farms and wave power systems.
STA has assisted clients with wind farm installations
using liftboats,
jack-ups and crane barges.
STA has used Orcaflex for
design and analysis of
wave power systems, and proprietary tension-leg platform-mounted
wind turbines.

STA and Aryatech, our Indian partners, secure contract for analysis of IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.) Single Point Mooring (SPM).
STA and Aryatech are happy to announce that they are to be working on a dynamic project analysis of the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) SPM buoy in Paradip, India. This represents a continued devlopment of the working partnership between STA and Aryatech in providing cutting-edge analysis of marine, offshore dynamic systems. The project enables STA and Aryatech to develop and enhance the sub-sea capabilities of IOCL to deliver energy to the Indian sub-continent. In the analysis provided STA and Aryatech will be using their expertise with Orcaflex to simulate the SPM in a range of conditions to further IOCL's understanding of the composite of the mooring system and the forces and factors that may cause failure or success in SPM systems.
STA and Aryatech have won the contract on proven ability to deliver to the client the dynamic analyses in a comprhensive and understandable format that allows the client to plan their project management for long-term installations. For STA, Aryatech and IOCL this contract signals the future for continuing business relationships in the field of offshore and subsea installations.
No Chances Can Be Taken When It Comes To Conducting An Unbiased Marine Accident Investigation
[Posted on Jan 30]
Anytime there’s an accident related to a marine drilling operation, the cause of that accident has to be determined. Unless it can be figured out what went wrong, there is no way to correct those mistakes and reduce the chances of a similar incident occurring again. While it’s possible the cause will be something clear to those involved, that isn’t always the case. There are instances when a marine accident investigation is needed to get to the bottom of the incident.
